OUR MISSION

Research Rooted in Wellness

Focused Fuel is built on current research about how Western diets high in processed foods, sugar, and saturated fats are linked with more severe ADHD symptoms, and how Mediterranean-style eating may be protective. This page summarizes what we know so far.

The Research Findings

My thesis revealed a clear pattern: Western dietary habits high in processed foods, sugar, and saturated fats are closely associated with more severe ADHD symptoms in teens. In contrast, adherence to a Mediterranean-style diet appears to have protective effects, supporting better focus and emotional regulation. While these findings are compelling, current research remains limited—especially for American teenagers—highlighting the need for more localized studies to fully understand these dietary impacts.

The Science of Progress

It is important to remember that much of what we know comes from observational studies, many of which were conducted outside the U.S. While these findings are promising, we still need more American-based intervention trials before establishing strict dietary rules. At Focused Fuel, we view this research as a gentle guide rather than a rigid requirement, offering a reassuring path toward supportive nutrition without the pressure of a cure-all promise.
